Love Thy Advertisers

So you have setup your blog, placed good content on it and you are seeing lots of traffic on your site. You have made effort to create backlinks to your site and slowly but steadily you see a rise in your Google Page Rank, Alexa ranking and Technorati placings.

Advertisers are starting to look to you for ad placement on your web site and you are raking in the dough. You think. Yes, I’m going to make it.

But come the following months, you realize some of your advertisers are starting to drop you. New signups for your advertisement placings are also falling. Now you have to go back to a day job…

Love Thy Advertisers

So what happened? It is important to give attention to you advertisers. Being an advertiser myself, what I look for on a site that I would like to advertise on would be based on the following:

• Relevant topics that what I’m doing
• Geographical target of audience
• How much the web site is willing to plug me.

Off the 3 criteria’s, the criteria of how much the web site is going to plug me would be the factor that would determine if I would continue to advertise on the web site month after month.

The reason why anyone even advertises is to bring in the traffic (and for e-commerce sites, conversions). Statistics have shown that by showing banners or even text links, a certain percentage (average of 3%) would actually click on advertisement links.

If I were to have 6 sites for comparison within a single month, ( Text-Link-Ads Traffic Experiment) I would most probably see enough traffic statistic and to co-related what actions were taken by the site operators to help drive traffic to their advertisers site. Web Site onwers who actively plug their advertisers within the context of their post would help drive more traffic to the advertisers site. This in turn lets the advertisers know that their advertising dollar spend on this particular site is well spend.

Take for example the classic arcade games site in my site bar, it doesn’t hurt me much to bring them into the forefront of attention in one of my post. In fact, this gives you a topic to write about, and increases the traffic going over to the advertised site and in return, you’ll have a loyal advertiser who’ll knows that you care for them and will continue to advertise with you, giving you a constant stream of income.

So do remember to give link love to your advertisers in your post whenever possible.
