What $125 of Text-Link-Ads did for me in 1 month Part 2
Let’s continue from the previous post mortem of my advertising campaign that was conducted using Text-Link-Ads. One of the advantages of buying text links is the generation of backlinks with a desired anchor text back into your site.
So how did the sites I chose do on these aspects? I would say quite good. I have a total of 900 backlinks of which I would say 800 comes from 4 of the websites I advertised on?
5xmom and JohnCow gave the best returns when it comes to returning link love. WackySingapore and Cowboy Caleb managed to throw in a few links here and there.
Again, the major disappointment was Wise Bread. I wouldn’t say I had high hopes on Make Some Money so the low figures were quite expected. But Wisebread being a heavily read blog, I would have expected pretty decent in the link love category if not for actual visitors. This was when I realized that my ads were not only on the bottom of the site home page. It was ONLY on the home page. The ads do not carry over to the single post pages like they should in the footers of others. WiseBread is really a total disappointment for advertisers.
Lesson learn
- Choose sites that are updated on a daily basis so that you backlinks increase with each of their post.
- Choose sites that feature your link in their single post as well as homepage
- Choose sites that have already other advertisements on their sites.
- Choose sites that places your Text-Link-Ad in the sidebar
- Choose sites that will give you an extra plug occasionally in their post
- Choose a higher PR site if you can afford it.

Actually you ought to learn also that:
Choosing a site which niche/topic is almost same as yours. With this, their audiences are most probably similar as yours thus increasing more traffic from that site.
Creating a attractive anchor title. A good one often interest people.

Thanks for the tips about TLA. Ads can be expensive so I definitely appreciate any tips I can get! I did some browsing on TLA’s website and it seems they do tell you how many pages your link will show up on. Just FYI for future reference:

Swift: I was targeting the “make money” crowd and a secondary target was more geographical than theme. Thank was why the spread.
Jayne: Some good did come out of TLA though. It’s good if you are trying to build up some back links.
